Volunteer Opportunities

The New Haven Classic is an organization run mainly by our volunteers. We rely heavily on our volunteers to take on leadership roles including maintaining the grounds and fields, game coordination, overseeing equipment, managing scoreboards, concession stands, monitor restrooms and help create the entirety of the support system for our events. These volunteers work together to execute our mission of providing soccer to boys and girls in our community. While most of our time is spent setting up and conducting business, we will meet in advance of the event to better understand roles and responsibilities to execute the business and ensure success of each event.  We welcome your participation and could not run our events without the generous help of our volunteers.  If you would like to donate some of your time to helping our event(s) run smoothly for youth soccer players, you are in the right place!

EXAMPLE OF VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Main Tent Coordinator: This individual will serve as the primary contact to participant needs and concerns. Greets participants, provides information, escalates major issues to Tournament Director. Assists Tournament Director with coordination of volunteers, recording scores, addressing game, player, and fan issues. Serve as backup for Runners for various odd jobs.

  • Jack of all trades: Handles all sorts of tasks. Mainly runs from field to field: picking up ice; grabbing game cards from field marshals; helping people with finding fields; assisting with concessions, merchandise sales; assisting volunteers as needed; checking sanitizer/toilet paper in port-a-johns; consolidating and emptying trash/recycle through the day. They will have a golf-cart to get around the campus in a timely fashion.

  • Field Coordinator: Field coordinators are overseeing the logistics on their assigned field. Field coordinators oversee equipment, scoreboards, collect game reports from referees and report game scores, ensure all is going well with fans, guests, vendors and teams, and communicate to the main tent and concerns such as missing refs, misbehavior, or health and safety issues on or off the field.

  • Field Set Up (Wed, Thurs, & Fri leading up to tourneys): Setting up and organizing the main venue, setup equipment (goals, sandbags, flags, and garbage bins, scoreboard, etc.)

  • Field Clean Up: Empty trash, checking restrooms, checking fields, cleaning up, emptying bins, preparing equipment, and getting fields ready for next day or breaking down and loading truck rental.
